If you enjoy watching how the perfect dessert is created, are curious about the secrets of good yeast dough, or simply love savouring a quality cup of coffee, Gastro Sweet Fest on 2 and 3 October is set to be one of Prague’s must-visit gastronomic destinations. The festival’s second edition at PVA EXPO PRAHA will combine tastings with live demonstrations and practical inspiration, offering visitors the chance not only to sample delicacies but also to learn something new.
The festival venue will be filled with stands from companies and brands specialising in confectionery, baking and coffee. Visitors can look forward to patisseries, chocolate shops, bistros, coffee roasters and other producers whose offerings will delight lovers of both sweet and savoury treats. There will also be spicy specialities, honey, ice cream and dried fruit. The latest innovations in confectionery supplies, equipment and appliances will be on display as well, so the festival promises inspiration not only for the taste buds, but also for anyone who enjoys baking and creating at home.
Live demonstrations of the art of confectionery and baking will be a major attraction. The opportunity to watch professionals at work is precisely what sets a gastronomic festival apart from a standard product exhibition. Visitors will have the chance to look over the shoulders of experienced experts, observe their techniques and gather ideas they can later try out in their own kitchens.
Pastry Chef of the Year, baristas and personalities worth watching
The programme will also offer a good dose of competitive excitement. The spotlight will be on the Pastry Chef of the Year and Junior Pastry Chef of the Year competitions, which will provide an insight into the current pastry scene while showcasing how the industry can evolve through a new generation of talent. Coffee lovers, meanwhile, can watch the exciting Enzo Bencini Barista Cup, where precision, creativity and barista craftsmanship will be put to the test.
However, the Enzo Bencini Barista Cup will not be only about competition. A number of well-known personalities will be arriving at PVA EXPO PRAHA to share their experiences with visitors and offer an insight into their craft. Stanislav Janíček, the first Czech bread sommelier, for example, will introduce those interested to the preparation of traditional vánočka and working with yeast dough. His presentation should therefore appeal to anyone who wants to understand what goes into making good baked goods and why working with dough involves much more than simply following a recipe.
Professional pastry chef Iveta Stávková, who has experience in international competitions and in preparing desserts for well-known personalities, will also share her inspiration. Eliška Hlaváčová, winner of the latest series of the TV competition Peče celá země (The Whole Country Bakes), will also showcase her pastry-making skills. Visitors will also have the chance to meet Helena Fléglová, owner of the HF Pastry Academy; Jiří Soukup, chocolatier at the Chocolate Museum in Tábor; and Míša Landová, a pastry chef and author of the successful blog Víkendové pečení (Weekend Baking).
A weekend offering more than just gastronomy
Another advantage of Gastro Sweet Fest is its link to other events taking place at the same time at the PVA EXPO PRAHA exhibition centre. On 2 and 3 October, For Beauty, a trade fair focusing on cosmetics, hairdressing, nail design and foot care, will be running concurrently. At the same time, the exhibition halls will also be filled by For Kids, a trade fair for toys, games and children’s products, and For Interior, a trade fair for furniture, interiors and home design. FOR KIDS and FOR INTERIOR will run until Sunday 4 October.
Gastro Sweet Fest could therefore be a lovely destination for the whole autumn weekend. Whether you’re coming in search of new flavours, looking for inspiration from the professionals, keen to try one of the workshops, watch the competitions, or simply see what’s new in the world of confectionery, baking and coffee, the programme for this second edition promises plenty of reasons to make your way to PVA EXPO PRAHA on 2 and 3 October.
