For the first time in history, a separate selection of the MICHELIN Guide for the entire Czech Republic will be created. Starting on 11 December, the inspectors will present the best Czech restaurants, ranging from fine dining establishments to traditional pubs featuring local ingredients. Czech gastronomy will thus be officially ranked among Europe's culinary elites.
Czech Republic Enters the League of Culinary Champions
This year marks a turning point for Czech gastronomy. For the first time, a separate MICHELIN Guide is being created, which maps gastronomic gems across the country. Inspectors taste local cuisine and look for establishments that offer exceptional experiences, whether it's fine dining or traditional restaurants with authentic Czech cuisine.
The new selection will be unveiled on 11 December in Mariánské Lázně, with the participation of local chefs, regional representatives, and prominent personalities from the gastronomic world. Domestic and foreign media will also be present.
"Cooperation with the MICHELIN Guide opens a new chapter in building the image of the Czech Republic as a destination with top gastronomy. The award is a globally recognized symbol of culinary excellence and will help raise international awareness of our cuisine. It will attract a discerning clientele that will appreciate quality, innovation, and local ingredients," says CzechTourism Director František Reismüller.
MICHELIN: A Guarantee of Quality, Passion, and Integrity
Inspectors evaluate restaurants anonymously according to strict international criteria and award MICHELIN stars—one, two, or three. Businesses with excellent food at a reasonable price can be awarded the Bib Gourmand, while innovative chefs can receive the MICHELIN Green Star, which highlights their approach to sustainable gastronomy.
Gastronomy as a Tourism Driver
VISA data shows that almost a quarter of foreign tourists' spending in the Czech Republic is on gastronomy. From local game and fish to seasonal vegetables, forest fruits, and quality Czech and Moravian wines, the Czech Republic has a lot to offer. Although people often associate Michelin restaurants with high prices, inspectors also appreciate establishments with affordable and authentic cuisine.
"Michelin awards today do not have to mean luxury. Restaurants that cook with local ingredients and bring joy and authenticity are often awarded. This is exactly in line with the philosophy of CzechTourism and sustainable tourism," adds director Tereza Hofmanová.
Partnership with MICHELIN
CzechTourism collaborates with MICHELIN on a three-year basis, which includes the creation of an electronic guide, articles, social media campaigns, and a promotional video. The value of the collaboration is €1.35 million.
