The Czech Republic has long been among the countries that international rankings rate as safe and stable. According to the Travel Safety Index 2025, the Czech Republic ranked 6th out of 180 countries, while the Global Peace Index 2025 ranked it 11th out of 163 countries. At a time when many travel destinations are facing security uncertainty, the Czech Republic maintains its reputation as a predictable environment suitable for both short and long-term stays.
The Travel Safety Index evaluates 35 criteria, which include crime levels, political stability, the availability of healthcare, and natural disaster risks. In this comparison, the Czech Republic is among the top ten highest-ranked countries in the world. Similarly, the Global Peace Index, compiled by The Institute for Economics and Peace, assesses security based on 23 indicators divided into three areas: societal security, internal stability, and international relations. The current ranking confirms a long-term trend rather than a one-off fluctuation.
According to CzechTourism director František Reismüller, security is one of the key pillars of the agency's new strategy for the period 2026-2030. The emphasis is on a balance between sustainable development, economic benefits, and an environment in which visitors, foreign workers, and investors can move with a sense of security.
The Czech Republic's stability is based on a combination of low crime, a functioning health system, strong institutions, and overall social continuity. The Czech Republic has consistently been among the top-ranked countries in comparison to neighboring countries—only five countries, including Austria, Denmark, and Switzerland, have outperformed it in the Travel Safety Index. For the tourism industry and foreign audiences, this means an easy-to-read and trustworthy destination.
A safe environment is also reflected in the perception of service quality and the overall comfort of travel. According to CzechTourism data, clear infrastructure, accessible healthcare, and low crime rates are among the factors that visitors across generations rate positively. This framework creates stable conditions not only for urban tourism but also for gastronomic travel, regional gastronomy, and slower forms of exploring the country.
Safety is perhaps a less visible but essential part of the travel experience. It creates space for exploring local cuisine, wine regions, and the urban gastronomic scene without having to compromise on comfort and tranquillity. This combination of stability and openness is one of the reasons why the Czech Republic has long appeared on the map of European gastronomic destinations.
