Hiša Franko has retained its three stars, Milka remains at two, and Galerija okusov has newly joined the Michelin elite. The new edition of the Michelin Guide Slovenia 2026 confirms that, despite its size, Slovenia holds an exceptionally strong position on the European gastronomic map. In total, the guide recommends 74 restaurants, with new Bib Gourmands and special awards added.

Michelin has published the new edition of its guide to Slovenia, and the country’s gastronomic scene once again has reason to celebrate. In a country with a population of just two million, Michelin now recommends 74 restaurants – two more than in the previous year. The biggest news is the awarding of a new Michelin star to Galerija okusov, which has joined the ranks of other Slovenian establishments recognised for their top-class cuisine.

At the very pinnacle of Slovenian gastronomy remains Hiša Franko, run by head chef Ana Roš, which is the only establishment in the country to continue holding the highest possible accolade – three Michelin stars. Michelin confirms its place among the world’s absolute elite and, at the same time, recognises it as a symbol of the extraordinary rise of the Slovenian gastronomic scene in recent years. The Milka restaurant in Kranjska Gora has once again retained its two stars, while the number of one-star establishments has risen to eight.

A new star for Galerija okusov, two new Bib Gourmand awards

The biggest attention this year is focused on Galerija okusov, which has earned its first Michelin star. The inspectors have recognised the team’s long-term dedication and consistently high gastronomic standards. According to the Michelin Guide, this is the only new star addition in this year’s edition.

However, the good news does not end with the stars. Michelin has also added two new restaurants to the Bib Gourmand category, which recognises exceptional value for money. Seven new recommended restaurants have also been included in the selection, confirming the breadth and dynamism of the current Slovenian culinary scene.

“The new edition once again demonstrates the vitality and diversity of Slovenian gastronomy,” Michelin states in its presentation of the guide. The inspectors also highlight the strong connection between local restaurants and regional produce, seasonality, and an ever-increasing emphasis on sustainability.

Sustainability and new personalities of the year

Alongside the Michelin stars, the guide also recognised restaurants and figures who are taking the industry in a different direction. Hotel Plesnik has been awarded a new Michelin Green Star for its approach to sustainable gastronomy. The award serves as a reminder that combining haute cuisine with a responsible approach to nature is one of the strongest attributes of contemporary Slovenia.

This year’s edition also features special awards for outstanding talent in the sector. Michelin presented awards for service, sommelier excellence, and Young Chef of the Year, thereby drawing attention not only to the restaurants themselves but also to the individuals behind their success.

Slovenia thus reaffirms its status as one of the most interesting gastronomic destinations in Europe today. The country has retained all its existing stars, added a new one, and further expanded its network of Michelin-recommended establishments. The result is a clear sign that Slovenian gastronomy is not built solely on a few famous names, but on an ever-broader and more mature scene capable of competing with much larger gastronomic powerhouses.
