The reopening of one of London’s most distinctive bars has been postponed. Tayēr + Elementary, which was closed by a fire in May, will not reopen its doors this year. Its owners, Alex Kratena and Monica Berg, have not yet announced a new reopening date.
Tayēr + Elementary, on London’s Old Street, was hit by a fire in May, forcing the venue to suspend operations. The owners had originally hoped to reopen the bar before the end of the year, but have now confirmed that this will not happen.
The bar, which currently ranks 12th on the Europe’s 50 Best Bars list, has not been entirely out of the limelight in the meantime. Over the summer, its team ran a six-week pop-up called Casual by Tayēr in the basement of London’s Cato bar in Covent Garden. The project featured its own cocktails, including the famous One Sip Martini, and was intended to allow the team to stay in touch with guests during the enforced break.
Kratena and Berg now admit that they still do not know the exact date of their return. They have assured guests that, as soon as the reopening date is confirmed, they will be among the first to know.
