Nikka Perfect Serve is one of those competitions that have long since transcended the boundaries of traditional bartending contests focused on technique or original recipes. Over more than fifteen years of its existence, it has built a reputation as one of the most prestigious international competitions because it seeks, above all, character: bartenders who can combine craftsmanship, guest interaction, their own experiences, and the story behind every well-mixed cocktail.

This year’s edition will be no exception—quite the contrary. The organisers have prepared the biggest overhaul of the format in recent years, shifting the competition even further towards authenticity, hospitality, and the ability to tell stories through Nikka whisky.

Once again this year, the competition is being brought to the Czech Republic by the official distributor of the Nikka Whisky brand, Ultra Premium Brands. The winner will not only compete for the prestigious title, but also for the chance to represent the Czech Republic at the world final in Japan, with a new route to this year’s final via the regional final in Athens, Greece.

The route to Japan this year goes via Athens

The biggest change to this year’s competition is the new European qualification system. Instead of separate national finals, selected countries will be divided into several regional groups. The Czech Republic will be placed in the South Group alongside, for example, Slovakia, Hungary, Greece, Spain, Portugal, Croatia, and the United Arab Emirates. The regional final for this group will take place on 19 October 2026 in Athens, and it is from there that the best bartenders will proceed to the world final, which will be held at the end of November in Japan.

Alongside the format itself, the competition brief is also changing significantly. The basis of the entry is no longer just an original cocktail, but a real-life story from a bar. The organisers want contestants to describe a specific encounter with a guest that influenced their view of service or hospitality, explain how this experience relates to the Nikka brand philosophy or a specific whisky, why they chose that particular spirit, and how the whole story is reflected in the name, recipe, and serving style of their cocktail. It is precisely this ability to link emotions, personal experiences, and the values of the Nikka brand that has long set this competition apart from most other bartending contests.

Nikka Perfect Serve has attracted well-deserved attention ever since it was first held in 2011. “Unlike competitions where everything revolves around the taste and visual presentation of cocktails, the competition sponsored by the iconic Japanese whisky Nikka brings the focus back to the very heart of the bartending profession—the ability to create an atmosphere in which the guest feels truly welcome,” says Kryštof Hordina, Brand Manager for Nikka Whisky at Ultra Premium Brands.

Entries are open until the end of July

Registration for this year’s competition is already underway and closes on 31 July 2026. A jury comprising representatives from Nikka Whisky and La Maison du Whisky will then select the fifteen best competitors, whose names will be announced on 24 August. Another new feature has been prepared for them this year: the Instagram Challenge. Over the course of approximately two weeks, they will be tasked with creating and posting a video presenting their competition concept. The deadline for this stage is 7 September; a week later, the organisers will announce the ten finalists who will compete in the regional final in Athens.

Nikka Perfect Serve is thus confirming once again that it is not merely looking for bartenders capable of preparing a technically perfect cocktail. It is looking for individuals who can think about hospitality in a broader context, work with guests’ emotions, and transform their own experiences into an authentic experience in a glass. If you feel that your work behind the bar is underpinned by just such a story, this year’s competition offers you the chance to showcase it on the international stage.

All information, the full rules, and the registration form are available on the official Nikka Perfect Serve competition website. For any enquiries regarding the Czech round, competitors can contact Kryštof Hordina, who represents the Nikka brand at Ultra Premium Brands.
